A. Mobile DVR solutions are RUGGED Digital Video Recorder systems that have been built SPECIFICALLY for TRANSIT / TRANSPORTATION based video surveillance. A mobile DVR (digital video recorder) has been specially designed for applications in buses, trucks, taxi, trams, metro, ambulance and other private vehicles.
Q. What is the difference between a regular DVR and mobile DVR? What is so special about the mobile DVR?
A. The main difference between a regular DVR and a mobile DVR lies in the environments in which they are meant to be used.
POWER SUPPLY – a regular DVR draws power from adaptor / indoor power supply
And has steady voltage – DC 12V and constant power supply. Whereas, a mobile DVR is powered by the vehicle & supports wide voltage input/ unstable voltage during engine start-up or braking when voltage falls to 8V or less or spikes up to as high as 36V.
ANTI-VIBRATION MECHANISM – a mobile DVR is constructed keeping in mind the Vibration which is inevitable in vehicles as they are constantly in motion; which may leads to mechanical failure.
The mobile DVR uses materials used for anti-vibration / shock-proof mechanisms.
DUST PREVENTION & HEAT DISSIPATION – a regular DVR is installed in open/well ventilated area and has simple design to dissipate heat working temperature range -10° ~50°C. A mobile DVR is made for installation in confined spaces and compartments where working temperature may ranges from -20° ~70°C and up to 95% humidity. The material & construct of the DVR allows heat dissipation and reduces dust from entering.
CONSTRUCT – a regular DVR utilizes BNC connector cable whereas the mobile DVR has aviation specification interface in place to combine devices- a rugged and solid Interface which ensures continuous transmission of power, signals and other data without failure.
DATA TRANSMISSION – regular DVR requires LAN connection / and recommended 4G/3G dongles for data transmission. Does not have GPS, or any secondary data storage option.
A Mobile DVR utilizes Wi-Fi, 4G & 3G networks, which enable real-time transmission of data collected from the vehicle in – video, location, speed and inertial measurements.
Q. What is the difference between a regular DVR and mobile DVR w.r.t remote monitoring?
A. A regular DVR for remote monitoring has option of cloud and DDNS. A DVR can be directly viewed through cloud, whereas in case of mobile DVR a server needs to be created.
Q. What technology does the mobile DVR support? HD-SDI, HD-CVI, AHD, HD-TVI?
A. The mobile DVR supports AHD technology- supports only analog HD cameras. Analog High Definition
Q. Where does the mobile DVR draw its power from?
A. the mobile DVR is powered by the vehicle it is installed in – connected with the vehicle battery (“RUN” terminal of the ignition switch), and powers on only when the vehicle engine is turned on.
Starting Up the DVR
To start up the DVR with vehicle ignition-
DVR + Vehicle Battery Connection:
The ignition switch is connected to the positive pole of the vehicle batteries. Please make sure that the connection is correct, and then follow the procedure below:
1. Connect the “DC IN +” of DVR to the positive pole of vehicle batteries;
2. Connect the “DC IN -” to the negative pole of vehicle batteries;
3. Connect the “KEY +” of DVR to the vehicle ignition switch;
4. Lock the hard disk/ SD Card;
5. When the vehicle is switched on, the DVR will start up with the vehicle.
Q. How long does the DVR take to start/ switch off?
A. DVR starts along when the engine is turned on, the only time taken is for booting. When the engine is switched off the DVR shuts down within 12 seconds.( Thanks to a built-in super capacitor which works as backup power- in case of sudden outage, the super capacitor keep the device power on, write all the recorded data into the SD card/HDD and then shutdown the system.)
Q. What is the power requirement for the mobile DVR? Ideal power supply
A. Power requirement range 8V DC ~ 36V DC.
Q. Does the mobile DVR come with standby mode in case of low battery voltage?
A. Yes, the mobile DVR comes with smart power management system. If the DVR detects that the battery’s voltage is lower than the given value, the device will shutdown automatically and switch to its ultralow standby consumption.
Q. Is the mobile DVR equipped to handle Power/voltage fluctuation? / Won’t the sudden loss / spike in power hamper the mobile DVR?
A. yes, the mobile DVR can handle power/voltage fluctuation. It has an internal power management circuit which stabilizes – unstable/ fluctuation in voltage. It can handle drop in voltage (for example while braking) as low as 8V or spike in voltage as high as 36V.
Q. What function does the super capacitor play?
A. the Mobile DVR has a built-in super capacitor used as backup power -when the device has a sudden outage, the super capacitor will keep the power on the device running, to write and record data into the SD card/HDD and then shut down the system.
Q. In case the vehicle abruptly stops, how much time will the mobile DVR take recording of?
A. Approximately 4 seconds (in DVR model with dual SD card only)

Q. What is G-sensor in DVR? What does it do?
A. The G-sensor or G-shock sensor works by detecting any movement of the vehicle. G-sensor supports in motion detection by Identifying driving habits, and detecting – heavy acceleration/hard braking/sharp turns/crash etc.
Q. Mobile DVR have anti-vibration feature, what is that?
A. The mobile DVR come with anti-vibration mechanism/construct keeping in mind the constant vibration which is inevitable as the vehicles are in motion; which may lead to mechanical failure.

Q. What does the alarm feature in the mobile DVR do?
A. The following types of alarms can be setup in the DVR:
Video Loss – alarm will be triggered if the camera stops working or if incompatible camera is connected.
Fatigue Driving alarm – You can set up the fatigue driving time, to remind the driver to avoid fatigue driving. The duration is calculated from the time when the device is started.
Over Speeding alarm – set up the warning speed / limit for the alarm to be triggered.
Disk Alarm – the alarm will trigger in case the SD card/HDD/SDD is not working.
External Alarm – user may set up/ configure the panic button
Q. What does high definition in mobile DVR mean?
A. The mobile DVR records video at 720p resolution (High definition).
Q. What is the benefit of metal housing? Is there anything special about the construct of mobile DVR?
A. The construct of the mobile DVR has been done keeping in mind various factors:
Heat dissipation – the DVR is installed in a vehicle’s confined spaces and compartments where working temperature may ranges from -20° ~70°C and up to 95% humidity. The construct of the DVR acts like a heat sink.
Shock proof design which is also resistant to vibration (since the vehicle is constantly moving, the vibration can cause mechanical failure)
Q. What is an aviation connector?
A. Aviation Connectors originally designed for commercial and military aviation are light weight connector solutions which have high density, high power, and EMI/EMP protection. Because of their tight locking cable connection they are ideal for the mobile DVR.
Q. What types of cameras are compatible with the mobile DVR?
A. The Mobile DVR is compatible with – Normal analog (TVL) & AHD cameras.
Q. Can I install a third party camera with the mobile DVR?
A. All AHD Cameras up to 1.3 Megapixel can be configured/ are compatible with the mobile DVR.
Q. How many cameras can be connected to mobile DVR?
A. Depends on the channel supported by the DVR- model. It can either host 4 or 8 cameras.
Q. Is the mobile DVR equipped to record audio? What format? Does the camera feed also have audio?
A. Yes, the mobile DVR can record audio. Required – the camera connected with the DVR should have an in built Microphone. Format – Audio compression G.726

1. Recording of Footage
a. Done automatically on the SD card/ HDD ( for installation/configuration please refer the manual given with the mobile DVR)
b. The mobile DVR records the footage from the cameras/mic inside/outside the vehicle and stores the same on the memory provided – SD/HDD/SSD
2. Backing up the footage/ retrieving the footage
a. SD Card – The footage recorded o the SD card can be backed up by connecting the SD card with the PC/laptop and simply copying the footage.
b. Pen Drive – connecting the USB Pen Drive with the mobile DVR, and copying the footage on the same.
c. Over Wi-Fi – connecting the mobile DVR with the Wi-Fi and back up the footage through CMS (for CMS installation and configuration please refer the manual provided)
Q. How many hours of footage / video can the DVR record?
A. Indicative recording of 30 GB per camera, per day or 1.25 GB per hour at 720p. So a 256 GB SD card will be able to record footage from 1 camera for 8 full days, and 2 cameras will be able to record for 4 full days (approximately).
Q. In case my memory card/ HDD are full, will the mobile DVR continue to record the feed? Is there any warning/alarm for indicating that memory is not available?
A. Disk Alarm – will be trigger in case the HDD is not working.
Overwrite- in case the memory of the DVR reaches full capacity, it starts to overwrite existing recordings.
Q. What is the benefit of SD card in the DVR model with HDD/SDD + SD card?
A. The SD card simultaneously takes the back up of the footage. Useful in case the HDD is not working / crashed – will act as back up.
Q. Will the mobile DVR continue to record In case of an accident?
A. The mobile DVR will continue to record till the time super capacitor backs up the power. (Up to 4 second recording in the Dual SD card model)
Q. My Mobile DVR supports SD card? Type – mini/micro? What class? SD card – SD, SDHC or SDXC?
A. Up to 256 GB SD Card is supported by the mobile DVR. Type of SD card is SDXC – High Speed cards.
Q. Do I need to install both the SD cards in the dual SD model?
A. No, the DVR supports single SD card usage.
Q. My Mobile DVR supports dual SD card? Should both cards be of the same class/ type/ size?
A. Up to 256 GB SDXC card is supported by the DVR. Yes, both the cards should be of the same capacity/ class.
Q. My Mobile DVR supports HDD? What is the type that should be used – SATA/ SSD? What size/dimension?
A. The Mobile DVR supports SATA HDD/SSD. Size of the same is 2.5”.maximum capacity of the HDD/SDD is 2 TB.
Q. How to install a HDD/SDD with the mobile DVR/ using the HDD for the first time with the DVR
A. For installation of HDD/SDD refer the manual shared with the device. The HDD will have to be formatted through the mobile DVR for the first time while installing.
Q. GPS – how can I track my vehicle?
A. The Vehicle can be through CMS or on mobile application, available only in DVR model with 4G/3G /GPS or Wi-Fi/GPS.

A. The free license version supports up to 10 devices. In case more devices are required to be added, the user will have to get in touch with the support team.
Q. Does a DVR require static IP for remote monitoring/ viewing?
A. No, the mobile DVR does not require a static IP. Static IP is required only for the server PC (server PC is a computer in which the server software has been installed). So to summarize static IP is only required for server pc and not the DVR.
It is recommended the Server PC should be kept on continuously while remotely monitoring the mobile DVR.
Q. What information is required while installing the 4G/3G Sim for the first time?
A. The user will require the APN, User Name, Dial Number and Password from their respective ISP.
Q. What is the name of the mobile App? Where can I access the same from?
A. The name of the mobile DVR application is SIP- security in palm. The mobile application is available only for Android smartphones. Users can download the application from https://ozonewallcam.com/downloads/ it will soon be available on play store as well.
Q. How can users access the Mobile DVR remotely?
A. The concept of online/remote viewing in Mobile DVR is different from the regular DVR.
There is no provision of cloud/DDNS access in mobile DVR – it requires a server to create a link between mobile DVRs and remote CMS/Smartphone.
Users have to create their own server because no third party server is available. The procedure of server configuration has been illustrated in the user manual.
